Grandma reading the Bible

As a little boy, Erkki Eronen was very close to his grandmother, who had an important influence on him in her role as an educator. She projected warmth and calm, and Little Erkki spent a lot of time with her. It was good to be in the company of this serene woman. The child was rather lonely, and the presence of an adult was important to him, especially after he was orphaned at the age of three following his father’s accidental death. Grandma used to sit in the rocking chair, reading from the Bible in her soothing voice. She opened up the symbolism of the Epistles and explained the meaning of the Psalms to the small boy.

Following a careful selection process, black granite was chosen, for its solemnity. The material also reflected the high-minded Christian spirituality of Eronen’s grandmother.

The statue is carefully balanced so that the rocking chair actually rocks.

Black granite.
